Petry Kuhne provided construction management services to oversee this 121,000 square foot, $22.8M Public Library facility in Champaign’s downtown.

The facility services Champaign Urbana and is within walking distance of the University of Illinois campus. The library is organized on two levels, separating youth and adult services on the second floor with the administration located on a third floor mezzanine. The facility boasts a series of lightwells and clerestories that allow natural light to reach the first level childrens collection. A central two level atrium wows the patron and acts as a gateway between the various sections of the facility.

The new facility provides a high tech, state of the art facility, which meets the needs of the Public for a 21st Century Library Facility. The project was constructed with the constraints of a small site, a tight budget, accelerated time frame, and was completed while keeping the immediately adjacent library facility open and operational for the duration of construction.

Petry Kuhne delivered on budget, logistics, and schedule, making this project not only a great success for the company but for the Champaign Urbana community as well.
